Android P will Include Bluetooth HID Device Profile Service to Smartphones

Leaks indicate that the smartphone will get doubled as a Bluetooth keyboard or a mouse. Microsoft, with its "Continuum" mode had introduced a similar feature earlier. Today, we're also confident that Android P will finally add support for the Bluetooth HID device profile service, which will allow for your smartphone to be used as a Bluetooth keyboard or mouse. Despite that, the feature was disabled on Android releases up through now; it will finally become enabled on Android P after a second commit was posted.

The way this feature will work on Android P phones is quite simple - by using wireless Bluetooth technology. With this feature enabled, it will allow your phone to tell the device that your phone is connected to that your phone is a mouse, keyboard, joystick or more depending on the profile sent.

According to a report on XDADevelopers the Bluetooth Human Interface Device (HID) profile has been enabled in the latest version of the Android.

Reports also shed lights on the fact that if your smartphone is enabled with the Bluetooth Profiles support, it would be able to function as a Hands-Free Profile (HFP) and Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP).

Using a phone as a trackpad might be useful to control workplace presentations, or as a media remote whenever there is better solution.

Furthermore, the relevant APIs for developers to use have been unhidden, which means applications will be able to take advantage of this functionality on Android devices running the P release (starting with the Google Pixel and Pixel 2 devices). There is a new feature, though, that locks down your device with the push of a button.
