Richard Sherman, San Francisco 49ers to meet today

Sounds disgusting, right? After all, Sherman was villain No. 1 for the Niners Faithful ever since he tipped former San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick's pass for wide receiver Michael Crabtree in the waning seconds of the 2014 NFC Championship game.

The Colts may be looking for a number one cornerback in free agency.

Sherman's meeting with 49ers brass on the same day as his official release is worth noting.

Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports that Sherman has a visit with the Detroit Lions scheduled for next week and Josina Anderson of ESPN said that the free agent cornerback has also garnered interest from the Tennessee Titans, Oakland Raiders, Houston Texans, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Green Bay Packers.

While Sherman's first stop is the San Francisco 49ers, there are several teams vying for his services.

If he joined the 49ers, Sherman would also be reunited with his partner for one of the most famous plays in Seattle sports history - Malcolm Smith.

Bringing in a player of Sherman's stature would send a strong message that the Panthers want to make another Super Bowl in the final season for Davis and center Ryan Kalil, both of whom have said they will retire after 2018.

Reports Saturday morning indicated it may not take long for Richard Sherman to find a new home after he was released by the Seahawks on Friday. The team has a talented corner in Darius Slay.

This offseason, 49ers have looked into three Pro Bowl cornerbacks - Vontae Davis, Marcus Peters and Aqib Talib - but did not seriously pursue them before they landed elsewhere.

It is not yet clear how the four-time All-Pro defensive back will bounce back from his Achilles injury.
