Tomb Raider 1, 2, 3 remasters for PC are coming soon

Tomb Raider 1, 2, 3 remasters for PC are coming soon

The remastered versions of Tomb Raider 1, 2, and 3 will support OpenVR, be playable with a controller, and will feature a new 3D engine for all three games.

While the IP is owned by Square-Enix, Realtech VR has been in charge of porting Tomb Raider 1 and 2 to mobile platforms. Bringing Tomb Raider to iOS and Android meant they recreated the game engine in OpenGL, added a few more modern effect like ambient occlusion and better shadowing. However, it seems as if the remasters will require the DOS version.

I had no idea that the first three Tomb Raider games were available on Steam but, yep, they're all there. We will provide a trailer next month of the PC version of TR3. It is unlikely that the remasters will have Mac support, but the company states that porting to Linux "should be possible". The new ports are even more impressive given that they are essentially built on top of the current Steam versions, and the developer is also exploring options for the GOG versions of the games, according to PC Gamer.

The news was revealed by Realtech VR on Twitter. They then tweeted an apology, stating that they can not discuss further until Square Enix makes an official statement.

We don't yet have a solid release date for the Tomb Raider remasters. The TR mod is right now a working idea that realtech VR needs to green lit which is not the case yet.

Any interest in reliving Tomb Raider's golden era? Fans can only keep their fingers crossed for now.

I may be one of the very few people who couldn't really get behind Angelina Jolie's uber sexy Lara Croft in the two films that she played the popular video game lead, whether she looked exactly like the character or not. Still based on the 2013 game of the same name, it opens in cinemas this Friday, March 16.
