Ex-Duck LeGarrette Blount signs with the Detroit Lions

The eight year veteran has a career 5,888 rushing yards on 1,341 carries and 51 touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Blount is coming off a season which saw him average 4.4 yards per carry on 173 rushes with the Eagles.

The Eagles lost another key player from the Super Bowl championship team Friday night.

Jay Ajayi, a one-time Pro Bowler, unseated the 31-year-old Blout as Philadelphia's lead back down the stretch of the season.

That said, he was still on a one-year deal and became a free agent just months after hoisting the Lombardi trophy for the second consecutive time.

Blount gained a lot of respect for the way he handled his reduced workload. He had 90 yards and a touchdown in Philly's Super Bowl LII victory. He also embraced Ajayi's arrival via a trade with Miami on October 31. The Detroit Lions added depth in the backfield, signing LeGarrette Blount and re-signing Zach Zenner.

Blount is familiar with general manager Bob Quinn and new head coach Matt Patricia from their days in New England, where the back spent parts of four seasons from 2013 to 2017.

An undrafted back out of OR in 2010, Blount spent his first three seasons in the National Football League with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

He's also durable; in the last five seasons, he's only missed three games due to injury.

The newcomers to date are defensive end Michael Bennett (trade with Seattle), defensive tackle Haloti Ngata (free agent), linebacker Corey Nelson (free agent) and cornerback Daryl Worley (trade with Carolina).
