Parkland students react to new clear backpack rule

The shooting in Parkland has restarted the debate on gun control from other school shootings such as Columbine, Virginia Tech and Sandy Hook Elementary.

Responding to someone else's tweet, student Josh Gallagher wrote: "This clear backpack idea is to give us kids a false sense of security and now has enraged most of the students here at MSD".

Gov. Rick Scott is providing up to eight Florida Highway Patrol officers to guard the school, and extra Broward Sheriff's deputies and district police officers are also stationed there. Junior Kai Koerber told CNN that the bags make students uncomfortable at school, saying, "We all now have to learn how to deal with not only the loss of our friends, but now our right to privacy".

"Feminine hygiene products that we need, that we have to carry with us, we can't choose to be on our menstrual or not". There are a lot of great plans on paper, but implementation is just not feasible. "It's bad that girls will have no privacy concealing their feminine products, and these bags won't last a week with real textbooks in them".

The management of Institute has given students transparent backpacks so that y can be identified to simple dress that y do not carry unsafe objects.

"We go through metal detectors when we go the airport". Metal-detecting wands weren't being used Monday but are being considered, officials said.

Thompson said someone sent an email warning of a threat to the campus.

Clear backpacks may deter some from bringing weapons into school, but without metal detectors people can still hide them in folders or in between papers, junior Isabella Pfeiffer said. Nikolas Cruz, a former pupil of 19 years, entered center on February 14 armed carrying in a sports bag a semi-automatic rifle with which he murdered 14 students and three adults. One of m appears in a photograph with backpack in head and making a cut of manga with text: "Transparent bags do not work if you put m in head". "Many of us think that this is a way that legislators can pacify us instead of enacting actual change". He, too, thinks the bags are not the answer to preventing guns from getting into the hands of the wrong people, which is what he and other students are fighting for. For everyone to know what's going on, they don't need to know.

Interesting comparison, Theodore - because if a pterodactyls were swooping in and killing dozens of students every few months, would the NRA not immediately obliterate them to extinction?

"Unless they're bullet-proof, I don't feel much safer", Kasky, who created the activist group Never Again and helped organize the student rally March for Our Lives, wrote on Twitter.
