USA didn't use Incirlik airbase of Turkey: Deputy PM

"Turkey considers the operation carried out early this morning by the United States, United Kingdom and France to be an appropriate response to the chemical attack which caused the deaths of many civilians in Douma on April 7", the foreign ministry said.

Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Bekir Bozdag said the strikes had not been launched via Turkey's southern Incirlik air base.

"Incirlik Base was not used [in the strikes]", Bozdağ added, referring to the US military air base placed in Turkey's southern province of Adana.

Turkey has welcomed a joint strike by the USA, U.K., and France against the Assad regime in the wake of a suspected chemical attack, which killed dozens outside of Damascus in Syria.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Saturday spoke over the phone separately with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron and Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to presidential sources. The Turkish leader also emphasised the importance of de-escalating the tension in the region.

In a written statement, Kalin said: "Using chemical weapons is a violation of worldwide law and a crime against humanity".

"Turkey is against the Assad regime, use of chemical or conventional weapons, internal conflicts, killing of people or displacement of them as well as all terror organizations including Daesh, the PKK, KCK, PYD/YPG in Syria", he added. "The conscience of the worldwide community carries no doubt to that effect", it added.

Turkey, a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation ally, has long opposed Syrian President Bashar Assad, but in recent months has moved closer to Iran and Russian in seeking to end the seven-year civil war across its border.
