US Says It's Still 'Locked And Loaded' For New Strikes In Syria

Russian President Vladimir Putin has condemned the overnight US-led missile attack on Syria and called for an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council, the Kremlin has said.

She explained that the 105-missile strike "obliterated" the major research facility used to create the weapons and shared a message from President Donald Trump.

The strikes "will significantly impact the Syrian regime's ability to develop, deploy and use chemical weapons in the future", said Lieutenant General Kenneth McKenzie, director of the USA military's Joint Staff, though he noted a "residual" element remained.

U.S. envoy Haley also said that if Trump draws the red line, he enforces it and the USA will continue to sustain pressure on Syria.

Defense Secretary James Mattis gave a briefing on the actions in Syria and said the Syrian regime has continued to ignore global law and use chemical weapons in attacks murdering woman and children and other innocent civilians.

All three allies fired 22 weapons at the Him Shinshar Chemical Weapons Storage Site just west of Homs, and the USA military launched seven missiles at the Him Shinshar Chemical Weapons Bunker, McKenzie said. It is still unclear how effective the strikes will be against Syria's regime.

The Syrian air defences not only missed the incoming missiles but they kept firing even after the last US, British and French strikes were complete.

Some other member states are unhappy with a statement issued on behalf of the European Council on Saturday, which appeared to declare the EU's wholehearted support for the operation by the US, France and Britain.

The Pentagon on Saturday said the strikes set the country's chemical weapons capability back "for years".

The demonstrators questioned the real goal of the USA military operation.

One site hit by the barrage of missiles was the Bazrah Research Center, a scientific research center on the outskirts of Damascus.

Russian Federation and Syria call the attack fabricated.

"We need real long-term commitment to bring peace to Syria", he said. She blamed the Security Council and Russia's actions for failing in its duty to hold those who use chemical weapons to account.

The decision to strike, after days of deliberations, marked Trump's second order to attack Syria.

"We have to be very conscious of the fact that we can not allow even the smallest use of chemical weapons".

He did not rule out sarin use.
