Cowboys TE Jason Witten Officially Retires & Joins ESPN

ESPN is reporting that Dallas Cowboys tight end and Tri-Cities native Jason Witten is retiring.

Meanwhile, Chris Mortensen of ESPN reported a different network provided another "interesting" offer that could make his decision more hard.

Witten was raised in Elizabethton and went on the play football the University of Tennessee.

It's been a long career filled with ups and downs, but the decision was finally made on Thursday.

We will keep you updated with the latest information.

The news broke right before the start of the 2018 NFL Draft last week, and Witten told the Cowboys he needed a few days, possibly through the weekend, to make a final decision.

Witten is an 11-time Pro Bowler and two-time first-team All-Pro.

He leaves the Cowboys as the all-time leader in games played, catches and receiving yards.

Witten will be the third former Cowboy to serve as a TV network's lead analyst, joining Romo of CBS and Troy Aikman of Fox.

Witten was a regular in the captains' workouts in February and March at The Star, and until Monday, he had not missed a workout since the official offseason program began.

The Cowboys drafted Stanford tight end Dalton Schultz in the fourth round. They have combined for nine career receptions, all by Swaim. Witten leaves the National Football League with a franchise leading 1,152 catches and 12,448 yards. Team owner Jerry Jones has spoken with him in hopes that he'll re-think his decision.
