Cardiff promoted to English Premier League

Neil Warnock's Cardiff earned a return to the Premier League after their relegation in 2013.

Cardiff City secured promotion to the English Premier League after drawing goalless with Reading on Sunday to clinch second place in the second tier Championship on the campaigh's final day.

Asked whether he is now the most renowned footballer from the Philippines, which is a country that pays far greater attention to sports such as boxing, basketball and billiards than football, Etheridge laughs and says: "I'd like to think so, yeah".

It was there he started to make a name for himself, playing a total of 94 matches before being snapped up by Cardiff in 2017, where he has played in all but one game this season. He finished with a superb 19 clean sheets and conceded only 37 goals.

Speaking with BBC Sport Wales, the Cardiff boss said: "I've got to plan pre-season straight away and I've already got transfer targets that I have got to try and get permission from the board to try and sign".

Warnock said: "We are not going to change things drastically".

When Warnock was appointed in October 2016, Cardiff were second from bottom of the Championship.

Etheridge also made history with the national team earlier this year when the Azkals sealed their first-ever AFC Asian Cup appearance with a 2-1 victory over Tajikistan last March at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium in Manila.
