1 advises Kristyna Pliskova on how to beat Serena Williams

Serena has since crashed to 453 in the world as a result, although she was able to use her protected ranking to enter the French Open.

Williams was world number one before leaving the tour a year ago to have a baby but the 23-times grand slam champion enters Roland Garros ranked 453rd. So, yeah, I was seeded, but because of the points which I earned in the end of the year before.

Ostapenko stunned the world of tennis past year when she became the first unseeded player to win the French Open since 1933, with victory over Simona Halep coming on the Latvian's 20th birthday.

Ivanka Trump is not happy about the way Serena Williams was treated in the lead up to the French Open.

"I admire both Serena and Venus because they have a perseverance that is incredible".

"So if we talk in terms of rule, the rule has to be for everybody".

Kristyna Pliskova - often called "KrisPlis" by tennis fans since her last name more often references sixth-ranked Karolina - said she would ask her sister for tips.

By contrast, Williams is a three-time victor at Roland Garros who first lifted the trophy here in 2002 and most recently in 2015. If she beats Kuznetsova, she could meet Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova of Russian Federation in the third round, then could be up against American CoCo Vandeweghe, who recently made it to the final in Stuttgart.

But who will come out victorious?

Elsewhere on Tuesday, Rafael Nadal will resume his bid to get his campaign for an 11th title off to a winning start. The 10-time French Open champion is leading 6-4, 6-3, 0-3.

Two-time Sharapova makes her return to Roland Garros having been refused a wild card past year following her doping suspension.

She then conceded that the other player on court might also have a say in the match.

The men's tournament sees rising Canadian star Denis Shapovalov play his first French Open main draw match against Australian John Millman, while third seed Marin Cilic faces world number 1,072 James Duckworth.

Maria Sharapova won the French Open in 2012 and 2014 and according to Chris Evert, the Russian can triumph again in Paris this year.

Defending champion Ostapenko returns as the fifth seed.
