Lyon deny Fekir is close to Liverpool move

Nabil Fekir reportedly had a medical with Liverpool on Thursday night, but with Lyon having denied claims a deal is done, Reds fans are confused over what is happening.

Fekir has been strongly linked with a move to Anfield in recent weeks after Jurgen Klopp identified the French global as a prime summer transfer target.

Manager Jurgen Klopp didn't sign a specific replacement for Philippe Coutinho when he departed for Barcelona in January, but Fekir could be compared to the Brazilian.

The statement reads: 'The information on the transfer of Nabil FEkir is false.

The 24-year-old is expected to complete his £53m Anfield switch on Friday after passing a medical at Clairefontaine in France. "Olympique Lyonnais categorically denies the false information disseminated by media about the transfer of Nabil Fekir to Liverpool".

But now there's a problem, because Lyon have just tweeted saying that the rumours of them agreeing to sell Fekir to Liverpool are false.

Widespread reports over the past week have suggested Liverpool have been trying to thrash out a deal with Lyon after Fekir made it clear his heart was set on a move to Anfield.

As of 10am, the latest report is from the Guardian's Andy Hunter, who says the player is due to undergo a medical and sign terms on Friday.

It's certainly a fascinating situation and it's going to be interesting to see how things progress over the next 24 hours.

Hunter specified the deal will be worth an initial €55 million (£48.3 million) plus an additional €5 million (£4.3 million) in add-ons, recalling that Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas had said on Thursday talks were "at a standstill".

Lyon released the following statement on Friday morning through their official social media channels.
