Brooklyn Nets deal Chinese-American guard Lin to Hawks

Lin told the Nets website earlier this week that he has yet to participate in full-contact drills as he rehabs the injury. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the trade had not been announced.

The Brooklyn Nets traded Lin on Thursday night to the Atlanta Hawks, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Along with Lin, the Nets will give the Hawks a 2025 second-round pick and the right to swap picks in 2023, per to the report.

The team was hoping to clear the logjam at the guard position, which already has D'Angelo Russell, Spencer Dinwiddie, Allen Crabbe, and Caris LeVert to split playing time.

Lin became an global sensation during the 2011-2012 season. In order to take on the salary in the Denver deal, the Atlanta trade must be completed first.

Lin, who originally signed as a free agent with Brooklyn on July 7, 2016, appeared in 37 games (34 starts) in the past two seasons with the Nets, averaging 14.6 points, 3.6 rebounds and 5.1 assists in 24.5 minutes per game. The Coney Island native averaged 6.3 points and 1.3 assists in 16 games last season, spending much of the year in the G League.
