Giuliani says Trump team received response from Mueller on possible interview

The alleged conflicts included: a dispute over fees at Trump National Golf Club; work for a law firm that once represented Mr Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner; and an interview for director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation a day before being named special counsel.

Over the weekend, Trump and Giuliani launched some of their most personal attacks to date against Mueller, claiming the special counsel personally has conflicts of interest - including an unnamed "contentious business relationship" - that should preclude him from running the investigation.

A Justice Department spokeswoman said the department had no immediate comment on Trump's tweet about ending Mueller's probe.

President Donald Trump's lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, said Monday that he does not know whether Trump would ever pardon Michael Cohen, the President's embattled ex-lawyer now under criminal investigation.

While collusion is not a technical legal charge, Mueller could bring conspiracy charges if he believes there was such work by campaign members with Russian Federation.

President Donald Trump on Tuesday embraced a line of defense offered by his attorney, Rudy Giuliani, that "collusion is not a crime", even though he continued to deny any alleged ties between his campaign and Moscow during the 2016 election. "But there's no violation of law, statute, rule or regulation that we have seen after reviewing this case for a year, and I think Bob Mueller will come to the same conclusion".

The possible defense is a marked departure from what Trump and his advisors have maintained for months - that there was "no collusion" with Russian Federation during the 2016 elections. If it wishes, Congress could start impeachment proceedings against Trump.

The former NY mayor said if Trump is interviewed by Mueller's legal team, "Our real concern is they're going to set up a perjury trap", attempting to catch Trump, who often misstates facts, in a lie, which is a criminal offense.

Trump also argued Mueller could not be impartial in the probe because he worked for a law firm that had represented Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner.

A source familiar with the secret testimony of key Trump Tower meeting participants to the House and Senate Intelligence Committees told NBC News that none of them ever raised the issue of a strategy session to get ready for the meeting.

Giuliani also sent a message to Mueller: It's time for the special counsel to "put up or shut up".

"We're in the process of responding to their proposal", Giuliani said after an event in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, indicating that Mueller's team had responded Tuesday.

"We are fully confident of the accuracy and reliability of the information that has been provided by Donald Trump Jr.in the various investigations", Futerfas said in a statement. Those sources would not say how long the Trump team's lawyers would take to respond.

"It's not particularly helpful".
