The Sales Tax Holiday overall is estimated to save Wisconsin families a total of $14.8 million from August 1 - 5, 2018.

Senate Bill 226 has established the tax-free weekend as a permanent day. That includes clothing, shoes, school supplies and some electronics.

The goal of the bill was to help parents buy all of their children's back-to-school needs. "A lot of these purchases are the ones people make when they are doing their back to school shopping". "It definitely helps with traffic and sales, having the tax free, everybody likes that savings", explained Pinson.

This year's back-to-school sales tax holiday is the fourth consecutive one to be held in the state of Ohio.

School instructional materials are defined by the state tax department as, "reference books, reference maps and globes, textbooks and workbooks".

The 7.875 percent sales tax rate in Albuquerque consists of 5.125 percent New Mexico state sales tax and 2.75 percent Albuquerque tax.

Most delivery charges are included in the tax base for the sales tax and the use tax.

There's no Missouri sales tax on school supplies up to $50 or clothing under $100 from Friday through Sunday. Hollenbeck says many shoppers are confused about purchases that quality-or don't-for tax free status.

According to the tax policy nonprofit Tax Foundation, which considers tax holidays political gimmicks that distract from potentially more useful tax relief, the number of states holding the holidays peaked at 19 in 2010.

"They're losing a ton of money when they do this", Lumley said.
