Israel, Palestinian Territories: Hamas and Israel Formulate Peace Deal

Israel has fought three wars with Palestinian militants in Gaza since 2008 and says the blockade is necessary to keep them from obtaining weapons or materials that could be used for military purposes.

The Haaretz newspaper reported that Israel's security cabinet is expected to meet on Sunday to discuss a possible deal with Hamas.

"A number of suspects infiltrated into Israel from the southern Gaza Strip, hurled firebombs and an explosive device in the border fence area and then returned into the Gaza Strip", an army statement said.

The vessel was taken to the Israeli port of Ashdod, while the crew were detained for "further enquiry".

Israeli troops shot dead a Palestinian and wounded at least 220 others at protests on the Gaza border on Friday, a Gaza hospital official said.




The political bureau is discussing Egyptian proposals for a truce with Israel and the United Nations -led reconstruction of Gaza, said Ghazi Hamad, a Gaza-based official in the group. Several of the exiled leaders attended the border protests Friday.

"The delegation will (consult). over issues of concern for the Palestinian people, foremost in achieving the national reconciliation and ending the Gaza blockade", Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoum said before the delegation arrived.

More than two million Palestinians are packed into the Gaza Strip, which suffers deep economic hardship.

Peace talks are yet to be successful in resolving the blockade against the strip. Egypt also restricts movement in and out of Gaza on its border.

"The devil is always in the details but we are #movingforward in the interest of #peace", Mladenov said.

In recent weeks, activists have been flying flaming kites and balloons over Israeli territory as part of ongoing rallies along the Gaza-Israel buffer zone.
