Sick couple sentenced for selling videos of them sexually abusing son

On Monday, the court jailed a Spanish man for 10 years for sexually abusing the boy repeatedly.

Eight people were arrested back in January after German police uncovered a paedophile ring in which the mother had been selling her 8-year-old boy for sex in and around the area of Freiburg.

They were both sentenced to 12 years in prison in a case that has horrified the country.

Her partner, Christian L, was sentenced to 12 years by the court in Freiburg. Among them: In March 2017 the boy was removed from the home after it was found he was living with Christian, who as a convicted pedophile could not have contact with children; the courts didn't speak with the boy but rather sided with his mother and returned him.

They are accused of having sexually assaulted the boy - who was nine when their trial began in June - as well as pimping him on the so-called darknet for more than two years. Some of the abuse was filmed.

The pair, identified as Berrin T, 48, and her partner Christian L, 39, and six others were arrested last autumn.

Javier Gonzalez Diaz was convicted of "14 counts of aggravated sexual assault, one count of rape and one count of bodily harm while making child pornography", judge Stefan Buergelin said. It said the mother was aware from the start of the man's pedophile tendencies and previous conviction.

The couple also sexually abused a three-year-old girl in 2015.

Video footage catalogued the horror of the boy's abuse, which included him being tied up and subjected to verbal humiliation.

Local authorities in Germany have been accused of failing to protect the boy, who now lives with a foster family.

The couple was also ordered to pay 42,500 euros ($49,200) in damages to the boy and another victim, a girl.

According to case psychiatrist Hartmut Pleines, quoted by Spiegel, the mother's claim that she was in thrall to her partner when she committed the abuse was false.
