"Third time is the charm".

Hours after he was seen spurning the lovely Tia and driving away in a trail of tears in last night's episode of Bachelor in Paradise, Colton Underwood has been announced by ABC as the central figure in the upcoming season 23 of The Bachelor. Many have also protested showrunner Mike Fleiss's decision to not cast a person of color, noting that there has yet to be a black Bachelor.

"I'm very excited", Underwood told host Michael Strahan.

Tia will not be a contestant, and this means that all the willing ladies will still have a chance with Colton. "That's what I'm looking forward to the most, being engaged and being married shortly after that.' He also admitted that the most important thing he is looking for on his 'journey" is someone who is in it for the right reasons. Fans would have preferred other guys from Becca's season like Jason Tartick or Blake Horstmann, and took to Twitter to express their displeasure. "That's what I'm hoping for".

Another called Colton "an opportunist" and many more said they would not be tuning into the new season in January. He got media attention when he revealed he was a virgin and had previously dated gymnast Aly Raisman.

The 26-year-old was then eliminated from the show, clearly heartbroken by not being able to continue things with Becca. And though Colton is clearly having second thoughts about dating Tia, that sentiment does not appear to be requited.

In a confessional, Colton said, "She's one of the best people I know".

Earlier, Underwood was among the final four contestants on "The Bachelorette".

'Post-football, Colton has dedicated himself to helping children fighting Cystic Fibrosis.
