Steelers 'disappointed' Le'Veon Bell has not signed tender

The Steelers have a two-week roster exemption they can use on Bell, who won't get paid until he's on the 53-player roster.

By not signing the tender, Bell missed the Steelers' camp, same as a year ago, with no repercussions.

The Steelers will move forward in preparations for the Cleveland Browns with James Conner as the starting running back.

"We are disappointed Le'Veon Bell has not signed his franchise tender and rejoined his teammates", read Colbert's account of the situation. Now, we're just singularly focused on the guys that are here working and have been here working and kind of building a plan around variables that we know.

"The status and condition and the approach of James", Tomlin said.

The report states that even if Bell were to return to practice by Wednesday, Conner, who ran well in the preseason, will get the start at in Cleveland. Bell is due to make $14.55 million under the one-year franchise tag, which he has yet to sign.

However, he's yet to sign the free agent tender or show up.

"Do you feel more comfortable with what you have behind Le'Veon going into Cleveland than you did previous year?"

Tomlin also said the decision to terminate the contract of veteran backup quarterback Landry Jones was "difficult". "We put him in the backseat, strap him in and be ready to go".

Dobbs entered the preseason fighting for the third spot at quarterback and sealed his job with a strong performance in the preseason finale against Carolina. "Josh was presented with very tangible challenges". As a matter of fact, he rose up in the face of it. We are playing a really good Steelers offense, a really good Steelers team. Some of those guys I'm talking about are Vance McDonald, James Washington, Mike Hilton, T.J. Watt, and Xavier Grimble.

"I'll know more once he participates tomorrow", Tomlin said. All four players participated in practice Monday.
