Google’s 10 year browser anniversary comes with a new look for users

Ten years ago Google released the first iteration of its Chrome browser. Open the latest Chrome 69 and the improvements are instantly obvious with much more rounded tabs, small toolbar icons and clearer prompts and updated URL bar. Users can even add the search bar to the bottom of the page in iOS and can enjoy general simplification of the menus in Chrome. Google Chrome will offer better security features combined with better password management, improved autofill and a faster and smarter Omnibox.

Now, Chrome can more accurately fill in your passwords, addresses, and credit card numbers, so that you can breeze through online checkout forms. The making them available isn't new, but creating them as you go to sign-up for services or change passwords is. Google says Chrome will soon let you search for files from Google Drive right in the Omnibox soon. Rather than wait for a page to load to answer a simple question, it will show you weather and factoids right then and there in the list of results. In celebration of Google Chrome's tenth year, the game has been refreshed with birthday cakes and balloons, plus the T-Rex has been kitted out with a cute party hat. You can see in the image below that the icons on a new tab now look very similar to Android icons.

A new tab will open with your Settings profile. For those who open a lot of tabs, the look of the website icons have been made easier to see at-a-glance. Whether someone will be annoyed enough to stop using Flash or abandon Chrome depends on the user, of course. You can update to Chrome 69 using the built-in updater, or head here to download it directly. This effectively reconfigures the experience for one-handed browsing, as you don't need to awkwardly shift your hand up to the top of your phone screen to pick a tab or pull up the search bar. The brand new Google Chrome browser is rolling out for Android, iOS, Windows, Mac, and Linux running devices.

To make Chrome more personal you can now create and manage shortcuts to your favourite websites directly from the new tab page - simply open a new tab and "Add shortcut". It said: "Imagine searching on Chrome for a singer you just heard, and having Chrome show you not just their bio, but also their upcoming concert near you and where to purchase tickets".

Chrome's password manager is improved too.

Since that time, Google Chrome has birthed not only mobile versions of the browser but even a full-fledged operating system that is single-handedly responsible for our existence.
