Unsworth is also said to be considering suing Musk for defamation in Britain and the United States, the report said.

All of this comes after Unsworth retained the services of a lawyer to begin defamation action against Musk, who first bandied about his claims on Twitter in July. The suit cites Musk's "long-standing public feud with short-sellers", claiming he manipulated the price of Tesla securities to hurt such investors - and in so doing damaged all buyers of the company's shares by issuing false and misleading information.

The proposed class-action complaint filed on Thursday is the latest of at least seven shareholders' suits that have been filed since August 7, when Musk said on Twitter that he had "funding secured" to take Tesla private at $420 a share.

The lawyer also said in an email to the Guardian on Tuesday, "Elon Musk's campaign of publishing vile and false accusations against Mr Unsworth is inexcusable". Its $1.8 billion junk bond maturing in August 2025 dropped more than a point in price to a record low 85.75 cents on the dollar.

Last month, Musk told the New York Times that he was experiencing an "excruciating" year, and the Times reported that Tesla's board members were anxious about his health and well-being, as well as his use of the sleep aid Ambien. Musk has publicly and clearly stated that he "hopes" to be sued.

However, he has continued the attack in astonishing emails to a BuzzFeed reporter.

Unsworth in an interview had criticized as showboasting a well-publicized effort by Musk to lend a custom-built mini-submarine to the rescue effort, and Musk responded on Twitter with comments strongly implying that the Briton was a pedophile. "I started to doubt whether I was also stuck in the cave", he said.

Thousands of Thais will feast royally in the capital on Thursday to celebrate the rescue of 12 boys and their soccer coach from a flooded cave, a dramatic and highly unsafe mission that gripped the world for more than two weeks.

The Drive's Alex Roy recently hypothesized that whether it's sleep deprivation, drug use, or just plain stubbornness driving Musk these days, it really doesn't matter because he believes so singularly in his own vision for electric cars.

On Aug. 24 Musk put out a statement saying the go-private deal was off.

"The tweeting fiasco", Cowen analyst Jeffrey Osborne wrote to clients, "is likely to draw investor scrutiny on whether Elon's behavior, management style, and operational ability are enough to take Tesla to the next level". Zacks Investment Research upgraded Tesla from a "hold" rating to a "buy" rating and set a $329.00 price target for the company in a research note on Tuesday, May 8th.

The stock dropped 2.8 percent to $280.74, the lowest level since late May, following a 4.2 percent decline on Tuesday after Mercedes introduced its first fully electric auto in Stockholm.

"This past year has been the most hard and painful year of my career", he said during the interview.
