Vijay Mallya sensational comments: Met Arun Jaitley before leaving India

Union Minister of Law and Justice Ravi Shankar Prasad on Thursday suggested that Congress president Rahul Gandhi could be hands-in-glove with Vijay Mallya, who in turn alleged to have met Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley before fleeing the country in March 2016.

Before attending the Westminster Magistrates" Court, the former Kingfisher Boss was inundated with many journalist questions and to one of their asks, he said "I left because I had a scheduled meeting in Geneva.

Rebutting Mallya's claims, Jaitley told ANI on Wednesday: "I have seen the statement of Vijay Mallya where he claims to have met me with an offer of settlement". That is the truth.' However, he did not mention that it was Arun Jaitley.

"Since 2014, I have never given him any appointment to meet me and the question of his having met me does not arise", the finance minister said in a Facebook post.

Recalling an instance Jaitley said: "I do remember on one occasion, he misused his privileges of Member of Rajya Sabha and while I was walking from the Rajya Sabha to my room and (he) suggested that he was going to make some offer of settlement". Arun Jaitley was the Finance Minister in 2016 when Mallya left India.

"As far as I am concerned, I have made a comprehensive settlement offer before the Karnataka High Court". However, he also claimed that Mallya told Jaitley that he was leaving for London. "I feel like a scapegoat", Mallya said. The second time it was done by the request of the government, Patra added, citing what he said were letters from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

Rahul said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi decides everything in the government and asked if it was Jaitley who had agreed to let fugitive Mallya run away from the country or if the order had come from the prime minister. There is nothing that I can do about it.

"I put nearly Rs 15,000 crore offer on the table of the Karnataka High Court. Both political parties don't like me", he said, while having a cigarette during the lunch break in the hearing for his ongoing extradition case. Rather, he will be lodged with other inmates in Barrack number 12 of the Arthur Road Jail. "I don't believe I owe you any further details". "I hope the honourable judges will consider it favourably; everybody gets paid off and I guess that's the primary objective", said Mallya, who is fighting extradition to India on charges of fraud and money laundering amounting to around Rs 9,000 crores.

Reportedly, the video submitted by the Indian authorities shows Barrack 12 of Arthur Road Jail in Mumbai where Vijay Mallya will be housed if he is extradited.

Mark Summers, the lawyer acting for the Indian government, said it was not their case that Mallya had taken out the loans intending that the airline should fail, but his intention was if it did, he would not have to repay them.
