The Xbox One October 2018 update is now available

The company is introducing some major new features with the latest major update for the Xbox One system, launching much-awaited features like the next-gen Avatars.

Xbox updated its avatars with more customization options, including body types and clothes.

Ever since the Xbox One launched in 2013, fans of the platform have been asking about avatars. You will see your own Avatar on your profile, as well as on the profile pages of anyone who has chosen to represent themselves as an Avatars. The Avatars will appear across Xbox One as well as activity feeds, Friend blocks on the Home screen, leaderboards, profiles, and other locations, as they will become a big part of the Xbox ecosystem going forward. In addition to all the items that are available at launch, we also have a new Avatar Store where you can obtain even more new Avatar items, including licensed designs from Halo, Gears of War, and more.

The new update should be available now through your console, although your device will eventually update automatically. You can use the new Photobooth feature to take pictures of your new Avatar to share around the network, or use as your gamerpic if you so choose. You'll also receive National Basketball Association 2K19 with the bundle. You can now chose to keep your old avatar, but it's unclear if this will be the case forever. Whatever the case, many Xbox One bundles already come with free games, like the National Basketball Association 2K19 bundle pictured above, so you're getting multiple freebies as part of this deal.

Commands include power on/off, adjust volume, launch games and apps, start and stop broadcasts on Mixer, capture screenshots, and more. This Xbox One S bundle packages the Xbox One S console with a Sandstone version of the Amazon Echo Dot. To set up Alexa, just say, "Alexa, open Xbox" and to set up Cortana, just say, "Hey Cortana, open Xbox", or search for "Xbox" in the assistant skill store.

Xbox is committed to bringing rich entertainment options to our fans. Incidentally, if you buy one of the select Xbox One S and Xbox One X bundles on the American branch of Amazon starting tomorrow, you'll also receive an Amazon Echo Dot with it.

Another key feature is Dolby Vision streaming, which is Dolby's HDR format. Support on more apps will come in the following months. Diving into the console's advanced video settings, a single checkbox enables the feature.

Lastly, this new Xbox One system update adds five additional languages to Narrator, including Spanish, Portuguese, Polish, Swedish, and Dutch. There's also a new Australian version of the English language Narrator.
