Huawei launches new flagship phones in bid to keep No. 2 spot

Huawei unveiled the Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro today - but there's also a new super-large version: The Mate 20 X. If you're thinking in terms of other devices on the market, this is like an XL version of the iPhone XS Max or Galaxy Note 9. The Mate 20 series is traditionally the highest-end offering from the Chinese OEM, featuring the year's latest-and-greatest technology. The Mate 20 features 16-megapixel ultra wide angle, 12-megapixel, wide angle, and 8-megapixel telephoto sensors.

Huawei also announced a new wearable during the launch, the Huawei Watch GT. Personally, I have always been a fan of LG's wide-angle lens so it is good news (for me; bad for LG) to see other companies follow that route.

Huawei provided travel and lodging for certain media attending the launch of the Mate 20 Pro, including MrMobile. This event will air from London at 2 PM local time (at 6.30 PM IST). The customers who wish to live stream the event can go on company's official Facebook, YouTube, Instagram and YouTube channels.

Further, the new phablet sports the Mate 20's triple rear camera setup with 40-megapixel, 20-megapixel and 8-megapixel sensors. So you get more screen real-estate compared to the Huawei Mate 20 Pro. Place a Qi-compatible smartphone in direct contact with the Mate 20 Pro to charge this phone using the Mate 20 Pro's huge 4,200mAh battery.

The Mate 20 has triple rear cameras which were co-developed with Leica. The smartphone is said to offer 6GB/8GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. The device will also come with a stylus. It's using an OLED panel and has a resolution of 2244 x 1080.

WinFuture claimed a wireless pair of headphones will launch alongside the Mate 20 Pro that will be called the "Huawei Freebuds 2" that will come in a charging case similar to Apple's AirPods. While the Pro model features a wide notch housing all the necessary tech for enhanced facial unlock, the standard Mate 20 comes with a teardrop Display, it's the tiny notch which only features the front-facing camera. The Huawei Mate 20 will be available at an estimated price of $780 and the Pro model will possibly be priced at $1099.

According to reports, the Huawei Mate 20 will be available at Euro 799 (around Rs 68,300), while the Mate 20 Pro is expected to be sold at Euro 1,080 (around Rs 92,300) in the European markets.
