Mega Millions jackpot soars to $548 million ahead of Friday night drawing

Numbers will be drawn Friday night for a chance at the estimated $548 million Mega Millions prize.

It's not yet known whether anyone bought a winning ticket for Friday's jackpot. The victor was able to file a lawsuit and stay anonymous while claiming the winnings through an anonymous trust, even though they had originally signed their winning ticket with their name. The chance of matching all six numbers and winning the jackpot is one in 302.5 million.

No one has won since July, when a group of California office workers split $543 million.

The current jackpot is the ninth largest of any USA lottery.

Win them both and, well, you'd make history. and earn $862 million.




If you're looking for a tiny hint: the numbers 17 and 12 have been drawn twice as Mega Balls since August 31.

If you match a yellow ball and a white ball during tonight's drawing, then you will walk away with $4. There were 37 tickets that matched four white balls plus the Mega Ball on Tuesday.

Saturday's jackpot has a cash option of $179.4 million. The immediate cash value of the prize, which winners can opt to take, is $309 million.

The largest Mega Millions grand prize was $656 million, won in 2012.

Mega Millions is heading into "mega" territory. Numbers will be drawn Friday night, October 12, 2018 for a chance at the estimated $548 million Mega Millions prize.

The prize money is drawn from ticket sales in 44 US states, the District of Columbia and the Virgin Islands.
